FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Some of the questions people often ask before getting started.
What happens in the first session?
Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and explore what has brought you to therapy.
I understand that taking that first step can feel daunting, so there’s no pressure to share anything you’re not ready to discuss.
We’ll talk about what you’d like to gain from therapy, and I’ll explain how we can work together. Most importantly, it’s about creating a space where you feel comfortable, heard and understood.
How long is a session?
Each therapy session lasts approximately 60 minutes.
I also offer a free 10-minute introductory telephone call, giving you the opportunity to ask questions and see whether working together feels right for you.
How many sessions will I need?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer.
Some people benefit from just a few sessions, while others prefer longer-term support.
We’ll work at your pace and regularly review how things are going. Therapy is your journey, and you are always in control of how long you choose to attend.
Is everything confidential?
Confidentiality is an important part of creating a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship.
What you share during our sessions is treated with care, respect and confidentiality.
There are some legal and safeguarding circumstances where confidentiality may need to be broken, particularly where there is a serious risk of harm. I’ll explain these limits clearly during our first session so you understand how your information is protected.
Do I need Brainspotting, or is talking therapy enough?
Not everyone needs the same approach to therapy.
Sometimes talking through your experiences is exactly what you need. Other times, you might find it difficult to put what you’re feeling into words.
Alongside person-centred counselling, I offer approaches such as Brainspotting and Integral Eye Movement Therapy (IEMT), which can explore emotional experiences in different ways.
We can discuss the available approaches together and decide what feels appropriate for you. There’s no pressure to try anything you’re uncomfortable with.
What if I’ve never had therapy before?
That’s absolutely fine. Everyone starts somewhere.
You don’t need to know what to say, where to begin or even fully understand what you’re feeling.
You can arrive exactly as you are.
My role isn’t to judge you or tell you how to live your life. It’s to offer a supportive space where we can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences together, at a pace that feels right for you.
